Teaching

Steph has been teaching since 2004 and currently teaches privately in Oxford and Chorleywood (NW London), for traditional music schools in the South East and for Small Harps for Coventry in the Midlands. With a grounding in both folk and classical traditions, Steph tailors her teaching methods to suit each individual student and enjoys working with all ages.

Steph teaches both a classical approach to lever harp (including ABRSM exams) as well as the traditional harpers skill set - working by ear, arrangement, improvisation and composition. While learning any instrument is challenging, it can also be great fun, and Steph constantly looks for new ways to make that journey more enjoyable.

Steph teaching a pupil One to one lessons are ideal for adults wanting to learn at their own pace. Individual lessons also give you the opportunity to explore and focus on what you really want to learn, be it a solid grounding in harp technique or perhaps a particular repertoire. Individual pupils can also have the opportunity to play with the group ensembles at informal concerts.

For adults wanting to learn an instrument and gain a new social experience she recommends group classes: fun, friendly and supportive, with the added bonus of playing in a group early on!

Steph is happy to put you in touch with the wider world of harp through music, players, makers, events and recordings... Anyone with harp-related queries is welcome to get in touch!
